"tonight is just icy enough" 3 x 3 inches, acrylic on photopaper.

I anxiously awaited my delivery of old letters. I hadn't thought of it before now, but that is a sure way to get some mail, isn't it? But really, you know that I cannot resist vintage mail and photographs. One recent find inspired me completely, it is handwritten in pencil in a very nice clean cursive. There are over 20 towns-people mentioned in it, that's enough to make a book with, and that is just what I want to do. So here is the beginning of my fictionalization of characters to go with this letter to Earl, signed by Dad, Ralph and Mother. Here it begins:

to: Pfc. Earl J. Pontius
MP Section
1540 SW
Fort Thomas, Kentucky

Lewisburg, Ohio January 17, 1943

Dear Earl,
Well another dreary Sunday is over. Tonight it is just icy enough that people who have no business out had better stay at home. While Ralph and I were at church it began to rain and freeze as it came down. I cannot walk without scattering ashes where I want to travel. I hope you will not have ice as we have here . . .

Up next: let's get pop.
